Kerry and Chris Shook's New Book

 
I am SOOOOOO EXCITED!!!  I was one of a select group of pastors and bloggers chosen to read and review Kerry & Chris Shook’s new book “Love At Last Sight – 30 Days to Grow and Deepen Your Closest Relationships”. I love Kerry and Chris. I had the privilege of serving on Kerry’s staff at Fellowship of The Woodlands, now Woodlands Church, as the Couples Pastor and it was one of the best experiences of my life.

For years I had a vision of a creative, cutting edge church that would incorporate music, drama, video and do whatever it took to reach it’s community for Christ with people who were on board and got it, I mean REALLY caught the vision and “GOT IT”. I saw that vision put into action at Fellowship of The Woodlands, and now I am launching Renegade, a church with that same DNA, in Victoria Texas.

Kerry brings his life application style of teaching to his writing as well and I am so looking forward to reading Kerry and Chris’ new book and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Homeschool Family on Extreme Makeover Home Edition Coming to Victoria

Just over two years ago the Extreme Makeover bus pulled up where some friends of mine were staying and Ty yelled thru his megaphone, "Good Morning, Woodhouse  Family!" Considering that medical bills had them only a few days away from being homeless this could not have come at a more perfect time.

The Woodhouse’s story is the subject of a new book by Kimberley Woodhouse titled “Welcome Home! Our Family’s Journey to Extreme Joy”.Kim will be in Victoria at Walden’s Books in Victoria Mall signing copies of her new book on October 10 from 2-4 PM. Normally secular bookstores don’t do book signings with Christian writers so we need as many people to come out for the signing as possible.

Training Your Kids, It's Work... And It Works

There are certain things that kids say and do that some people attribute to kids just being kids, or that is just the way siblings treat each other. I do not buy that. In our home we don’t let the kids talk unkind to each other; things like name calling, speaking unkind, manipulating each other to get what they want, etc., are not tolerated under any circumstances. Our philosophy is that if you do not train your child’s heart everyone and everything else will. Does it work? Over and over again we see that it does. 

On Sunday one of Kailee’s teachers from her four year room at church told Mollie about an incident that happened that morning. Kailee and the other kids were sitting on their mats as the teacher was starting the lesson. One little girl sitting on one side of Kailee said to the girl sitting on the other side of Kailee “If you don’t move over here by me I am not going be your friend anymore!”

Kailee looked at the girl and said “We do not talk to our friends like that.”
The little girl looked at Kailee quite puzzled “We don’t? “
“No we don’t” replied Kailee “That is not very kind and nice and we do not talk like that”.
“Oh.” And with that they all the kids went back to listening to the lesson. The teacher could not believe how Kailee handled the situation.

I have discovered that success as a parent is not measured by how your kids behave when they are with you, but how they behave when you are not around. The key to having kids behave when you are not around is not centered on legalistic rules, regulations and punishment but teaching them right and wrong and to respect others, treating people how they would want to be treated. A great book that Mollie and I have read and recemond is Shepherding a Child's Heart by Tedd Tripp.

They don’t always get it right, just like we don’t always get it right, but the sooner we start training the better chance they have.
