Making Memories

Look at the picture of the car below and tell me what is the first adjective that comes to your mind. Seriously what is the first word that popps into your head.

Was the word … “Cute”, it was wasn’t it. OH COME ON… CUTE!?! It’s a Special Edition PT Dream
Cruiser. Five Speed on the floor, 220 Horsepower 2.4 liter turbo convertible. Cute, cute… …o.k. it is cute. Other than my friend Steve McKechnie who Img_0333_3though it was “cool” almost everyone describes the car as cute. Well, when Mollie is driving the car it is cute. I would like to thank Billy Jurkash at Northpoint Auto Sales for making us a great deal on the our PT. Now it’s not that I have an ego or anything but I want to make it clear that my main ride is a big 1100cc V-Twin.

I do love my little PT Cruiser. The car does have some pep and is a great car for “Fun Family Time”. That is what we call our family outings. We have discovered we don’t have to do anything big, the important thing is that we are all together as a family. Think about it, I can almost guarantee that your fondest memories with your family when you were young involved doing simple things. I remember when I was three years old I loved Coca-Cola Icees and Slush Puppies (follow those links for a blast from the past). We lived on Mistletoe just off Ben Jordan and Dad knew the guy who owned/ran the stop and shop at the corner of Ben Jordan and Airline (store is still there) and every so often we would stop in and get an Icee. I would stand on the seat of dad’s pick up (way before seatbelt and child safety seat laws) as we drove home and drink my Icee.

Thirty Five years later my kids thing is Icee’s from either the corner convenience store or Target and slushes from sonic. A great Fun Family Time outing for us is dropping the top on the PT Cruiser and hitting Sonic at happy hour for a round of slushes. Kailee’s thing is combining Apple,Cherry & Strawberry. Braiden likes Lemmon strait up, and I prefer the Cranbury. Mollie usually just takes random samples of all of ours. (Oh, if you like the Sonic commercials with the two guys click here.)

Simple and cheep make the best Fun Family Time. My challenge to you, especially if you have kids, is to have some fun family time this week. It might be something simple like everyone splitting a blizzard at Dairy Queen, diging out an old cook book and make a batch of cookies from scratch, washing the car in the driveway, going outside and playing a game of kickball in the back yard, whatever you do, do it together. Remember, memories are made…not bought (but slushes are cheeper during happy hour.)
